Interpretive Hike "Volcanic Crater Lagoon XL"
| Have you ever imagined being inside a volcanic crater? This adventure starts in the Rivers View point, just 15 minutes away from Pucón. There, you can see the Liucura and Trancura Rivers and their valleys, where a string of stratovolcanoes can be observed. Then, we visit the waterfalls ‘Eyes of Caburgua’, and later we head for the extinct volcano. Along the way, you will see traces of past eruptions, with large amounts of volcanic mud and geological formations from different ages. You also will receive an introduction to volcanology, focusing specially on the volcanos in the area. Crossing private fields in a hour and a half hike, we climb to the crater. Inside, we can see a natural amphitheater sealed with a green Emerald water lagoon. Without sunscreen, we can swim in the mineralized hot springs, which are about 25ºC. This place has varied vegetation and, in the afternoon, we can enjoy a unique concert, when giant toads and frogs use the ampitheater to liven up the this naturally magical place. During winter months, we arrive there with snow shoes, and we can see many birds and other animals of the area. Also, at times it is possible to see the frozen lagoon, which is astonishingly beautiful. Before we return, we visit the Caburgua lake, famous not only for its black sand, but also for its giant ‘empanadas’ – pies. The last stop is in waterfalls Salto del Mariman; in summer we can also go to Mapuche fair Kui-Kui to end our tour. |
